The Fierce Urgency of Now
“We are now faced with the fact, my friends, that tomorrow is today. We are confronted with The Fierce Urgency of Now. In this unfolding conundrum of life and history, there is such a thing as being too late… We may cry out desperately for time to pause in her passage, but time is adamant to every plea and rushes on… There is an invisible book of life that faithfully records our vigilance or our neglect.”
— Martin Luther King, Jr.

It has been an interesting and adventurous few weeks in Washington, D.C. The energy is alive, and airwaves are more open than usual. (This is what the longtime residents and political types have told me.) There is an increased willingness for collaboration and ideas, partly due to the fact that so many of us are not certain of the direction that we are heading, partly due to the new administration, partly due to the nature of how we are evolving as a society (my favorite reason). They say the city is younger, that conversations are more inclusive. They say that it probably won’t last forever, but in my mind for the future, it does…
I have written a few more songs for the album, and will be recording them at the end of August. The CD needs to be done for a gig in Washington DC on Thursday, September 24th (see “Performances” section for more info). I wish I could record them sooner, but after my time in Washington DC, I must visit a few cities in the U.S. before I head to Cortes Island in British Columbia for a 3-week adventure. Upon my return to California in August, the recording session will begin.
My mind is racing with ideas and creative musings that I want to manifest, and I must be patient… though I feel the Fierce Urgency of Now that King was talking about, I have to remember that the creative process comes forth in its own time, that all I can do is continue to do the work, and work hard. I hope you are doing the same.
In regards to the WSI project mentioned in the blog below… here are definitions of Worldview, Sovereignty and Intuition from a friend from Bogotá, Colombia (who is now living in the United States):
“Worldview: Seems vague and limiting, for how can one have ONE view of the world. You need to have reached a kind of illumination, or otherwise be blinded by a type of certainty. I like it if used passively, as in: a way of seeing things, based on your experience of the world.
Sovereignty: It always seem to me that it had something to do with a feeling of belonging. If I combine that with what it actually means, I think it’s a nice concept: a sense of belonging in independence.
Intuition: Knowing without the use of knowledge.”
