I was selected as one of Skope Magazine’s “Artists 2 Watch” for the August 2010 list.

Skope asked a series of similar questions to five artists/bands. You can check out my answers and the other featured bands too.

Thanks Skope, it’s an honor! We’re all pleased to be on your radar.

Interview with ReadysetDC

ReadysetDC is an online zine dedicated to the creative revolution and movement that is happening in Washington, D.C.

We discussed the inspiration and history behind my music, we mused on the role that artists could play in D.C. We even went to the acclaimed National Gallery of Art and did a photo shoot in front of Henri Matisse’s giant and masterful cut-out La Négresse and the stunning West Garden Court within the museum.

But what was most exciting was our discussion around a challenge I’ve always wanted to issue to the District of Columbia:

What would happen if 10,000 artists came to Washington DC for six months? How would this change the world?

Thanks for the great interview ReadysetDC! And special thanks to writers Allyson Behnke, and photographers Tracy ClaytonKris Krug, Danielle Barnett | Mischiefphoto and Leslie Dreyer.

I was a guest on The Derrick Ashong Experience, which is one of the shows on Oprah Radio. What an honor, what rich conversation… and what an amazing soul that is Derrick Ashong (aka DNA) of the band Soulfege.

Please note that due to editing, there is 1:47 min of silence before the interview begins, due to commercial breaks.

“I’ve always felt a little bit of sympathy for the viola. The violin, in spite of its rather thin voice and high screech potential, always gets the limelight, while the richer, sonorous voice of the viola gets relegated to harmonies and pizzicatos. Well, I can feel a little less sympathy after listening to Christen Lien’s new CD Vol. I: Battle Cry. Lien definitely gives the instrument its voice back, and lets it say all the things it has the beauty and the power to say when it’s in the right hands…”

An Agent of Futures Only Imagined

This coverage was unexpected, and most appreciated in its unique perspective.

The article is called What is a Leader Before They Are Followed?, and I was guised as a ringleader for “Agents of Futures Only Imagined.”

A deep bow to the writer, Mike Cook.

An excerpt:

“They were as a group I’d call ‘leaders in the process of becoming.’ Each, already accomplished in their own right, will likely be recognized as a leader on a broader stage sometime in the future. My thesis is that they will eventually be well recognized outside their immediate field as social as well as business leaders, and it is purely a function of their engagement with their own vision that this possibility exists. They are agents for their vision…”
