The beautiful and inspiring documentary “Alice Walker: Beauty In Truth” which features several pieces of my music will be screening in the Bay Area on Sunday, October 6th at 5:45pm at the Mill Valley Film Festival.
This film is not to be missed — and not only because you can hear music from my new album. Director Pratibha Parmar has made an incredible film about one of the most powerful and iconic artists of our time. After watching the film, my heart was opened, my body buzzed with energy, my mind raced with inspiration. Alice Walker is not only a celebrated, Pulitzer Prize winning American talent; she is a warrior, a strong voice in a time when strength is needed, a woman with a humble heart and a love for simplicity, truth and justice. And the 20+ year friendship that is shared between Ms. Walker and Ms. Parmar allows us, the viewers, to receive a rare and intimate view of this celebrated author.
If you are in the Bay Area on Sunday, October 6th, I highly recommend attending this event. This film has a lot of talent, truth and mojo. And I’m willing to bet you’ll be glad you went. Tickets and screening details are available here. The film features talents such as Steven Spielberg, Yoko Ono, Quincy Jones, Sapphire, Angela Davis, Howard Zinn, Danny Glover, and many others.
And if you are not in the San Francisco area, I will keep you posted on future screenings and the upcoming PBS screening of the film.
This is a film we all must see… because as Alice and Pratibha remind us, there is so much beauty in truth.
